Saturday morning, I woke up with the urge to race a 5K. Nevermind the fact that I haven't run since the middle of January.
So, 20 minutes before the race was the start, I was bundled up in my running gear and heading over to the start. It was FREEZING. Temps in the low 20s with a VERY unfriendly wind.
Leaving out all of the dialog - the idiots were out of NUMBERS and shirts. I was told that I could run, but I would have to time myself.
So I turned around, got in my car and drove home to my warm house and baby girl.
You would think that since I was all geared up for a run that I would have done SOMETHING once I got home, right? Nah. I got in the shower and moved on with my day.
Anyway - Happy Valentine's Day. I bet you wish you had a cute Valentine like mine, dont you?

If a Woodchuck...
According to Wikipedia - the groundhog is also a woodchuck. I had no idea.
It's 6ยบ here today. I'm looking forward to spring. But I don't think it's going to come any earlier than March 20th.
I haven't run in 2 weeks. And I won't be running this week or weekend. Being a working mom is a hard adjustment for me, and right now I still just want to spend all of my free time with my baby. I'll get back into running. I have a few races in the next couple of months that I really want to do... and I will.
My birthday is on Sunday. I accept cash, giftcards and cookies.
I'm turning 26. So I was just thinking... maybe I should run 26.2 before I turn 27? Probably not, but it's something to think about.

My Superficial Reason for Running
With a blog title like that, I'm sure that you are expecting my confession to be about how I want running to turn my body from muffin-top flab to rock-hard minx.
And while I would love for that to be the case... I am aware that it is not going to happen. Not while I'm enjoying 5lbs of chocolate and gallons of ice cream. I'm okay with that.
No - the driving force behind my runs is bragging rights.
You see, I have family and friends that are easily impressed - so my declaration of completing 9 races in 2010 leaves many in awe.
And I just eat it up.
Yes, I also enjoy many other things about running. I love to race (even though "race" is a relative term for my 10 minute mile pace), I love the cardio benefits, I love the "me" time, and I really love the automatic love for other runners out there.
But most of all it's the collection of t-shirts and medals that I have. And I'll keep running and racing to add more to them.

Working Mom
I am back at work today. Which means that I now have time to catch up on blogs. You would think that that wouldn't be the case while I'm at work.
I ran/walked three times last week. Slowly I will get back into it. I'm thinking about signing up for a couple of 5Ks in the next couple of months to help me get motivated. But I'm planning to wait until I've been at work for a couple of weeks, so that I can get used to the schedule and see how running in the evenings works out for me.
What I wouldn't give for my own treadmill!! Yes, our clubhouse is close... but it isn't the same as having one in your basement.
I can't believe how fast my 12 weeks went by. I miss my little baby.

Finally
I completed my first post-baby "run" today.
There was a lot more walking than running.
And I only went 2 miles.
In other news: I love my baby.
